Science

Posted 27 August 2016

An official complaint has been lodged with the Royal Society of New Zealand (RSNZ) alleging a breach of that Society's own Code of Ethics by Professors Tim Naish and James Renwick, of Victoria University of Wellington in their current programme of talks around New Zealand, entitled: "Ten Things You Didn't Know About Climate Change," sponsored jointly by the University and RSNZ.

In support of the complaint, the complainants have attached a paper by a distinguished expatriate New Zealand physicist, Dr Michael J. Kelly, Prince Philip Professor of Technology at Cambridge University in UK.

GEOSCIENCE SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND HAS SPECIAL NEWSLETTER AS TRIBUTE TO LATE PROFESSOR BOB CARTER
Science

Posted 17 August 2016

"People that I hoped would be there forever have begun to vanish.....The Austraian scientist Bob Carter died far too young.  The climate change orthodoxy can be a tough proposition to be sceptical about if you mind being accused of betraying the future of the human race.  Carter knew how to maintain a gentlemanly vocalbulary even when the guardians of dogma were calling him names.  It's hard trick to work: sometimes it's just easier to join in and call your persecutors intensely dense.  But Carter always behaved as if they might have a point. Perhaps he was working on the principle that politeness is an argument in itself....." Clive James, quoted in a special 76-page supplement by the Geoscience Society of New Zealand  pahing tribute to the late Professor Robert M. (Bob) Carter.

PHYSICIST WHO FORESEES GLOBAL COOLING SAYS OTHER SCIENTISTS TRIED TO SILENCE HER
Science

"A physicist who foresees a 30-year periodmof global cooling says other climatologists have tried to 'silence' her latest research on solar cycles.  Valentina Zharkova, a professor at Northumbria University at Newcastle in the United KIngdom, said thr Royal Astronomical Socioety received requests to withdraw a press release on her team's latest research pointing to a significant drop in solar activitiy by mid-century." HOW AND WHY THE WORLD WAS DECEIVED ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE
Science

Posted 4 August 2016

"Current weather is normal; that is, it is well within the range of all previous weather and climate variations. There are no dramatic increases in temperature, precipitation, hurricanes, tornadoes or any other severe weather. The climate is changing just as it always has and always will and the rate of change is perfectly normal. Of course, that is not what the government, environmentalists, or the media promote and as a result most of the public believe. The misconception is deliberate and central to the exploitation of global warming and climate change as the vehicle for a political agenda." Distinguished Canadian climate scientist, Professor Tim Ball, posts at The Rebel.

TOP EXPERT'S GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING GLOBAL TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT
Science

Posted 1 August 2016

"When we measure temperature in our backyard, we really aren't that concerned if the thermometer we use is out by a degree or two. Since most people live where temperature fluctuates by many degrees every day, and the season swing can be 80oF or more, a couple of degrees doesn't matter too much. But in the case of global warming, one or two degrees is the entire change scientists are trying to measure over a period of 50 to 100 years. Since none of our temperature monitoring systems was designed to measure such a small change over such a long period of time, there is much disagreement over exactly how much warming has or will occur." A must-read paper by Dr Roy Spencer, one if the world's top experts on temperature meaurement

SCIENCE, ESPECIALLY ABOUT CLIMATE, IS NO PLACE FOR SCARE TACTICS
Science

Posted 30 July 2016

"The column [in NZ Herald] by University of Canterbury sociologist Jarrod Gilbert describing climate change 'denial' as a crime is alarming because he suggests those with opinions differing to his should be silenced.  What is happening to iur education system when university lecturers attack, rather than defend, free speech?  The most worrying aspect of this is the apparent desire to close down debate on a theme that is associated with costly energy policies and other grave economic consequences." Associate Professor Christ De Freitas, writing in the New Zealand Herald in repy to the Gilbert article (also below)
